Terms of Reference To note the Panel’s Terms of Reference as follows:
“To agree the recruitment process for Independent Members of the Standards Committee from May 2010, including the placing of appropriate advertisements, and to carry out that process to select 4 Independent Members and one reserve Independent Member, for recommendation to the Standards Committee and Council for appointment”. Appointment of Independent Members to the Standards Committee Report of the Director of Legal and Governance Services. Additional documents: Minutes: In accordance with the Local Government (Access to Information) Act 1985, applications for the role of Independent Member of the Standards Committee were tabled at the meeting as the closing date for applications was 8 March 2010. The Panel were required to conduct the shortlisting process for this role.
The Panel considered each application submitted and unanimously agreed that the following applicants be invited for an interview:

The Panel also agreed that two reserves be agreed in the event that one or more of the shortlisted candidates withdrew from the process. These were agreed as Applicant Ref: 88015 as first reserve and Applicant Ref: 88077 as second reserve.
A Member of the Panel wished it to be recorded that following the meeting of the Panel on 21 January 2010, he had subsequent concerns about a requirement agreed by the Panel, which prevented applicants from being a member of a political party. The Chairman commented that whilst he understood the concerns, the Panel unanimously agreed that this was an appropriate provision to maintain the integrity of Independent Members.
RESOLVED: That the shortlisted applicants be invited for an interview at a meeting of the Panel in March 2010. |
