Appointment of Chair

To appoint a Chair for the purposes of this meeting.

RESOLVED:  That Jane Dunn be appointed Chair of the Panel for the purposes of this meeting.

Arrangement of Agenda

(a)  To agree that the reports listed under Item 6 of the agenda be considered with the press and public excluded on the grounds the reports contain exempt information, as defined in Paragraph 6 of Part 1 to Schedule 12A of the Local Government (Access to Information) Act 1985, relating to the adoption, care, fostering or education of a particular child.

6.   The Keeping of a Child in Secure Accommodation

The item was considered to contain exempt information as defined in Paragraph 6 of Part 1 to Schedule 12A of the Local Government (Access To Information) Act 1985, in that it contains information relating to care of a particular child.

To note the terms of reference as set out below:

 

“To review in accordance with the Children (Secure Accommodation) Regulations 1991 the Keeping of Children in Secure Accommodation.”

The Keeping of a Child in Secure Accommodation

The Panel considered a report of the Director of Children’s Services, which set out the background to the current situation and outlined the reasons why a secure placement was considered necessary. The Panel also considered a report from the Unit.

 

The Panel carefully reviewed the case, taking into account the verbal updates from the Social Services Officer and members of the Unit, together with the wishes of the child.

 

Having carefully considered all the views expressed at the meeting, together with the reports, the Panel

 

RESOLVED: That the child remain in the Secure Unit for a period of four weeks from the period of 5th May 2004.
