Report of the Corporate Director Children and Families

Minutes:

Members received a report of the Interim Corporate Director of Children and Families which sought approval for the remuneration for the post of Divisional Director of Children and Young People’s Services.

 

A Member suggested that as the role was being covered by an interim post holder, it would be preferable to wait until the Chief Executive had completed his senior management review before considering this.  The Chair advised that this post would have no impact on the Chief Executive’s review and that the new post would deliver a net saving.  He added that there was a need to fill the post and not continue to rely on interims.  The Divisional Director confirmed the Chief Executive was aware of the proposed new post and had no objections. 

 

A Member expressed the view that this was an opportunity to create a post that would be attractive in the market in what was a difficult area and would also save the Council money.

 

A Member expressed in the strongest terms that the post should not be recruited to until the Chief Executive had presented his review so as not to limit it.  The Member also stated that if the Chief Executive had no objections to the proposals that this should have been referenced in the report.

 

Members noted that the Chief Executive and Corporate Director were not in attendance.  Having been put to the vote it was

 

RESOLVED:  That the remuneration on which an appointment to the post of Divisional Director of Children and Young People’s Services would be made be agreed.

Members received a confidential report of the Divisional Director of Commissioning Services, Environment and Enterprise which sought approval for a severance payment where the amount concerned was £100,000 or greater.

 

RESOLVED:  That payment of the contractual and statutory payments to the employee who it was proposed would be made redundant, as set out in Appendices 1 and 2 to the report, be approved.

Minutes:

Members received a confidential report of the Divisional Director of Commissioning Services, Environment and Enterprise which sought approval for a severance payment where the amount concerned was £100,000 or greater.

 

Members asked that their appreciation for the work of those staff who were being made redundant, many of whom had long service, be noted, including those who were not the subject of reports to the Panel.

 

RESOLVED:  That payment of the contractual and statutory payments to the employee who it was proposed would be made redundant, as set out in Appendices 1 and 2 to the report, be approved.
